Surgery Day Schedule
An insight into our surgery day schedule (this includes all scheduled surgeries throughout the week):
1. Patients are received and hospitalized between 9AM - 11AM on our surgery days (Monday, Wednesday, Friday). All patients (except puppies and small mammals) should not eat anything for 12 hours before surgery. They can drink up until your trip to our clinic.
2. All patients undergo a preoperative assessment. This includes a clinical examination, blood profile, and in older patients x-rays, and ultrasonography, (cardiac examination if required).
3. All patients receive intravenous infusion therapy after they are admitted.
4. Depending on the operation schedule for that day, the patients undergo surgery. In the case of an emergency case arriving (trauma, gastric dilational volvulus, etc.) the emergency surgery is conducted first prior to our planned surgeries.
5. Most operations are conducted under inhalation anesthesia with monitoring of all vital functions, O2 saturation/frequency, ECG, inhaled/exhaled gases, etc.
6. All patients recover from anesthesia in our hospitalization area. It is critical that they regain their spontaneous breathing ability. We do not return patients still under anesthesia to their owners because that is a risk to the patients health.
7. After surgery the patient is woken up and continues to receive IV fluids, medications, and monitoring from our hospitalization doctor and assistant.
8. Patient is released home to the owner usually during the afternoon. This is always clarified with the owner, and pets can also be picked up in the evening if necessary. In the case of complex surgeries, it may be best to leave your pet hospitalized till the next day. This will be determined when you drop them off.
